A sublime programme of some of the best modern choral music ever composed.
From Stanford, who is credited with freeing church music from its chains and bringing about the "English musical renaissance", to Bob Chilcott, one of the finest choral composers at work in Britain today. We will take you on a journey through Wood’s grand O Thou the Central Orb, Stanford's exquisite Three Motets to Leighton’s uplifting Let all the world in every corner sing. The secular second half begins with Stanford's masterpiece The Blue Bird (picture the stillness of the lake with its reflection of the soaring bird). It then picks up a beat and will have you tapping your feet to the hugely popular Lullaby of Birdland. The highly original A little Jazz Mass by Bob Chilcott embraces a variety of jazz styles, from the Gloria's opening swing bass to the closing bluesy Agnus.
Concert 2 hours, 20 minute interval. Doors open 30 minutes before concert. Refreshments will be available in the interval. |
